The McDonald County R-1 School District is a large part of our community, so it’s only fit that we, as residents, show appreciation for the hundreds of people that put forth effort everyday to help the children who attend these schools and rely on these staff members.

Local businesses have found a perfect solution to show that McDonald County cares about the members that play pivotal roles in their children’s lives, a monthly contest that gifts the designated winner with something to remind them how special they are.

This all began with Anderson Floral, who decided to show appreciation through a flower arrangement. In the County, no act of service can be completed without others wanting to join the fun, so many businesses have committed to join. Each month the winner will receive a floral arrangement from Anderson Floral and Gift, a gift certificate from The Flick Theater, a T-shirt from Farmers Daughter, lunch from Burger Time, and a cheesecake from Blissful Baking!

For the first month of this wonderful initiative, the winner was the McDonald County High School Resource Officer, Buck Owen. Buck is well appreciated and loved by anyone who works with him, so he is deemed very deserving of the first winner. Buck has decided to donate his winnings to Project Graduation to be auctioned off at a later date, the Senior Class, as well as the rest of McDonald County, are grateful to him and his Mustang spirit.

All nominations and voting will be done on the Anderson Floral and Gifts Facebook page, so don’t forget your favorite teachers, bus drivers, custodians, principals, nurses, coaches, and every other member that makes McDonald County the greatest school on Earth. Keep a lookout for September nominations!
