The mission statement of the WIB is easily translated into three areas of strategic focus: Business Development, Talent Development, and Global Competitiveness.
The prime mission of Southwest Missouri’s Workforce Investment Board (WIB) is to enrich the region’s economy by preparing businesses and the workforce for global competitiveness. We’re a progressive workforce intermediary that leverages resources to increase the value of the region’s human capital portfolio (the workforce) to fuel economic momentum.
The WIB is a non-profit corporation that operates a business-driven framework for economic growth on a regional basis. We oversee employment and training programs in the seven counties of Barry, Barton, Dade, Jasper, Lawrence, McDonald, and Newton in Southwest Missouri. Through our Heartland 411 partnership, we join forces with neighboring WIBs in Southeast Kansas, Northeast Oklahoma, and Northwest Arkansas to enhance the greater Four-States area labor market. The WIB’s role with the Joplin Regional Partnership further links the WIB’s resources with economic development tools to help our regional communities in pursuit of prosperity.
